IMPORTANT Session Changes

We have 2 sessions that are consistently poorly attended by swimmers. These are the Friday Performance Squad session at Southglade and the Sunday session at Harvey Hadden.

The coaching team believes 50m training is an important part of our swimming programme. Despite our efforts the Harvey Hadden session usually only has 4-6 swimmers. As a result the Club will no longer be offering the Sunday sessions at Harvey Hadden. Instead we will hold occasional 50m training sessions at appropriate points in the training calendar. The last HH session will be Sunday 11 December.

Similarly the Friday Southglade session has suffered declining attendance for a number of months. This contrasts with our Arnold sessions which are always well attended. As a result we are moving the Friday Performance session from Southglade to Arnold pool at 8.00pm - 9.00pm The last session at Southglade will be Friday 16 December. The first session at Arnold LC will be Friday 20 January.

This is a small reduction in our pool time for the Performance Squad but we plan on it being temporary. We have a standing request with Arnold Leisure Centre management for more pool time. The long term strategy of the club is to offer all training at the same pool.

5th December 2016

20 Dec Fun Relay Session

Dont forget the last session at Arnold LC will be Tuesday 20 December - this will Fun Relay night - entry fee payable on the night - warm up 6.30 pm - ALL swimmers welcome - teams to be picked by coaching staff on the night

Notts ASA Summer Gala 16th & 17th July 2016

Glorious summer sunshine greeted the end of the Notts ASA Summer Gala at the Harvey Hadden Sports Village on Sunday which at the same time signalled the end of what has been a glorious 2016 summer season for Arnold Swimming Club.

The Summer Gala was a well-managed, laid back meet where the lack of any technical or official interruptions was very notable in allowing a smooth and prompt two days of competition. It is just a shame that this years gala wasnt supported by more East Midlands clubs, particularly given that same long course pool is used for the pinnacle of annual Nottinghamshire swimming the County Championships. Indeed the only criticism you could have was the slight thriftiness towards trophies only the top three swimmers in each combined age group received medals.

As was befitting the last event of the season, all of the Arnold representative put in maximum effort and recorded some great swims. Indeed, against the back drop of trophy stinginess, Arnold haul of bling was even more impressive;
Sam Williams & Lily Jackson-Oates lead the way with 2 golds each Morgan Green and Oliver Silver receiving 1 gold medal each.
8 Silver medals were secured Sam Williams x 2; Ollie Silver x2; Alfie Silver; Amaia Steele; Bethany Easton; Ellie Blakey;
And 8 Bronze medals were also captured Ellie Blakey x3; Alfie Silver x 2; Bethany Easton; Oliver Silver; Lily Jackson-Oates.

However, whilst trophies always put a nice gloss on the day, it is the swimmers performances that is more important and here ever one of the Arnold swimmers should be congratulated for a great weekends work. Of the 81 events the Arnold swimmers competed in, 68 PBs were obtained as well as a very impressive 26 club records proof of the effort that everyone put in.

Finally, a BIG thank you to Dave and Russ for the valuable input you provided to the swimmers all weekend; and to Su,Mandy & Carol for your help in organising the troops.

June Update

A Glorious Summer ! Well not terms of the weather but a lot to celebrate at Arnold Swimming Club

In June the Club (formed in 1926) had its own 90th Birthday celebration and members enjoyed a picnic afternoon with cake, inflatable sumo wrestling suits, space hopping and bouncy castle.

Competitions have been fast and furious (just like our swimmers) including the East Midlands Regional Swimming Championships at Ponds Forge and Corby International Pool. Congratulations to Ellie Blakey, Maje Felten, Kyra MacDonald, Charly Neilson, Ameleia Sale, Thomas White, Samuel Williams, Ben Cuthill, Aimee Glendenning and Henry Osborne.

Success continued in the Clubs own trophy gala, the Gladys Hull Cup, with 2 ASC teams finishing 1st and 3rd on the night with 43 Personal Best (PBs) swims and 3 Club records (CRs).

At the East Midlands Disability Swimming Championships Ted Smiley swam and medalled.

After completion of the final round of the Derby and Notts Junior League, Arnold A finished 7th in the league whilst Arnold B came 28th out of 30 teams.

On 11 June, competition took us to the Worksop Leisure Centre in the ASA Stage One Trophy Gala which saw the Club victorious and claim our 5th first place win in the last six galas.

Having won 2 previous rounds, junior swimmers (8-12 years) came away as CHAMPIONS of the Leicestershire Diddy League after winning the final at Corby International Pool on 25 June. This is a great achievement in our first year in the competition and comes on the back of the successes in the ASA Stage One Trophy Galas and the Derby and Notts Junior League. Tired but happy and inspired ASC swimmers had another successful day at the Nottingham Northern Swimming Club Open Meet on 26 June at Harvey Haddon when 44 swimmers came home with 123 PBs and 4 CRs.

Focus now switches to the Nottinghamshire ASA Summer Gala, after which the swimmers will be taking a break from competition over the school holidays, but will be back in training for preparation for the 2016 club championships.

Congratulations to all swimmers who competed in all these galas you make us proud. All the above is a testament to the hard work of the coaches and swimmers over the last couple years who together make the Club what it is today. Many thanks to the parents for their continued help and vocal support.

25th June 2016

I am pleased to announce that Arnold Swimming Club are the outright CHAMPIONS of the Leicester Diddy League after winning the final at Corby International Pool earlier this evening.

This is a great achievement in our first year in the competition and comes on the back of the successes in Stage One Trophy Galas and the Derby and Notts Junior League.

All the above competitions are aimed at our 8 - 12 year old swimmers and is a testament to the hard work of the coaches and swimmers over the last couple years to make the squad what it is today.

Many thanks to the parents for their help and vocal support.

Stage One Report

The younger members of Arnold Swimming Club continued to do the club proud as they secured another first place trophy in the Notts ASA Stage 1 Gala on Saturday 11 June - their second consecutive winners trophy in this competition this year.

Making light work of missing several experienced swimmers, Arnold held off the spirited challenge of host club Worksop Dolphins to record victory by a 16 point margin thanks to 18 first places from the 41 events.

Indeed, the victory demonstrates the current depth of the Arnold squad as, despite having three swimmers competing in their first Gala and several others having only their second taste of competitive action, those taking part recorded some great swims as the club collected their fifth winners trophy from the last six Stage 1 events.

This was the first Gala in what promises to be a busy June for the club with two sides in Derby and Notts League action this Saturday, whilst the club also competes in the final of the prestigious Leicester Diddy League competition on 25 June 2016.

April Update

Where were you on Saturday, 23 April (St Georges day)? Arnold Swimming Club members were out making their own history... It all started with 22 junior members heading off for an early start for a busy day at the Rykeneld SC Open Meet at Sharley Park, Chesterfield and what a day it turned out to be!
For some this was their first Open Meet swimming competition but this did not stop a terrific performance with a final haul of 21 medals, 61 PBs (personal best times) and 17 speeding tickets (faster than advertised entry times)
Swimmers included: Amber Kirk, Connie Greatrix, Coral Harewood-Soos, Eleanor Watson, Ellie Davison, Emilia Jamson, Hannah Lowe, Keira Winter, Kinga Jurkowska, Lily Jackson-Oates, Maddison Mason, Shannon Mapplethorpe, Albie Stapleton, Ben Cuthill, Daniel Mapplethorpe, Eli Myers, Euan Iremonger, Jesse Richards, Joshua Merrifield, Josh Rayns, Max Davies, Samuel Easton
And if that was not enough...
At 6.00 pm Arnold SC Team (8-11 years) then sprang into action at the Notts ASA Stage 1 Trophy Gala at Hucknall. Off to a great start they swam their way to a phenomenal
23 x 1st place swims and 14 x 2nd place swims, finishing overall in 1st place position and winning the Gala Trophy by a clear 60 points. Again for some this was their first gala but what a performance!
