| Welcome to the Autumn edition of the ASC newsletter. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| I hope you have all have a great summer holiday and are looking forward to the start of the new season. Once again we have managed to offer a full training session programme throughout the Summer holiday period. Allowing ALL of our members the chance to swim 5 sessions per week in the main pool and uninterrupted sessions in the Teaching pool. This is something that is not offered by most swimming clubs in Nottinghamshire who usually close ALL swimming sessions for 4 weeks over the summer holidays. Thanks to all the Coaches, Teachers Poolside Helpers and support staff throughout the club who continue to provide an unprecedented level of commitment to the club. | ![]() |

| Club Championships | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| As you are aware from previous newsletters the Head Coach and the rest of the Coaching Team want EVERY swimmer at the club to take part in this years Club Championships. Over the next few days the details and entry forms for the Club Championships are going to be made available. For the Small Pool and 1st Session Swimmers, the Session Coaches along with the Head Coach is going to advise each individual swimmer what events they should be entering for Club Championships. This will be done based on the Coaches knowledge of the swimmer, for example we have completed time trials recently for many swimmers in the 1st session on both 50 metre and 200 metre swims and this information along with other elements of a swimmers ability will be taken into account. An individual event sheet will be given to each swimmer highlighting what events the Coach believes the swimmer should be entering. This years Club Championships has also been adjusted to give each individual swimmer plenty of ‘recovery time’ between events. For 2nd session ‘Squad Swimmers’ we do not plan to advise ALL of these swimmers individually as many are experienced enough to know they should enter as many 50m, 100m and 200m metre events as possible in their age group. Some of our younger and less experienced ‘Squad Swimmers’ will be guided by the Head Coach and Lane Coaches on what events they should be entering. If there is any individuals who wish to discuss which events to enter please do not hesitate to talk to any of the Coaches. Please get your entries in asap as this will help in the organisation of the Championships. Thank you and Good Luck!! |

| Coaches Corner | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| As Head Coach I cannot stress enough how important it is that you ALL enter this years Club Championships. All 2nd Session Squad Swimmers should be entering both Sprint and Distance events and while I am aware not everyone will be happy doing 200m Fly, everyone is capable and should be entering 200 Free, 200 IM plus 2 other strokes. The club Championships provides you with the perfect opportunity to test yourself as a swimmer. In Squad Sessions you all swim between 1500 and 3000metres each training session so you are ALL more than capable of swimming 200m. This year the Club Championships has been worked out so that there is plenty of rest between each event. If you are an 11 and over girl or a 12 and over boy the maximum amount of metres you can swim in one Gala is only 600 metres, and this is spread over 3 hours!! If you are not sure about your Club Championship entry please ask myself or one of the Senior Coaches who will be happy to help. Good Luck for the Club Championships and the rest of the season, lets work as individuals as part of a great team and continue to have success in and out of the pool. |

This additional training session has so far been fantastically supported, thank you. Every swimmer who attends these sessions has gained valuable experience of long course training in a superb facility. We have recently started hiring 3 lanes to allow us to offer this type of training to more of our swimmers. Please note that this session will remain ‘by invitation only’ as we are only able to have 12 swimmers per lane (University hire conditions). We have booked a further 4 training sessions this year. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Open Meet reminder | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Again a general reminder from David Fortescue regarding Open Meet results. We would like to remind all swimmers that it is important to let David know when you are taking part or have taken part in an Open Meet, this way David can ensure the swimmers results get posted on the website. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sponsorship | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| As you are all aware we are trying to find sponsorship for the club. Please have a chat with your employer, you never know they may be interested in sponsoring the club? We can provide a DVD presentation of the club for any prospective sponsor to view and we would be more than happy to discuss what we are hoping to achieve with sponsorship. We would also like to find sponsors for each event at the Club Championships in October and November, more details to follow. Anyone interested in helping with either finding main sponsors or with sponsorship at the Club Championships please talk to Jim Shelton. |

| Mansfield SC Major Oak Open Meet 21st-22nd November | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Mansfield Open Meet is a swimming competition that is organised every year. Any ASA member from any club can enter to take part in the competition so long as they are the correct age and can swim between the upper and lower qualification times. The events covered are 50m, 100m, 200m in all 4 strokes & 200 IM for all age groups except 9 years who cannot compete in the 100m events. The event is licensed by the ASA as a Level 2 and as such attracts a good standard of swimmer. Any times achieved are registered with the ASA and can be used for County and Midland Championships. All of the events have to be paid for by the swimmer and the swimmer swims as an individual Arnold SC member. The entry information can be easily found on the Mansfield SC website, and the closing date for entries is 1st October 2009, however if you wish to enter this event you need to do so asap as it is a very popular meet. A number of Arnold SC senior swimmers will be entering the event and as such Coaches will be on poolside. Please talk to Graham Davies for any help/support. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
