Editors Bit
	Dear Members, Happy New Year and welcome to the first edition of Newsplash this year. We hope you had a good Christmas and are looking forward to 2004. To those of you who haven’t seen a copy of Newsplash before, this is the Newsletter of Arnold Swimming Club and its’ aim is to keep swimmers and parents alike up to date with results, news, and important information relating to the Club and its members. The aim is to produce a newsletter every two months and should you have information you feel should be included, please do not hesitate to let me know by e-mailing me (Julie Redshaw) on Redders4@tiscali.co.uk. The first newsletter of this year is basically to bring you up to speed on the results of the Galas towards the end of last year together with any other information we feel you should be aware of at this early stage. If you know of anyone who has not received a copy of Newsplash and would like one, please let the Club Desk know and we shall get them a copy. It is important that as many members as possible read the Newsletter as otherwise they may miss vital information.
	Results
	NOTTS & DISTRICT LEAGE
	Round 2 of the Notts & District league took place on 8th November at Mansfield. Unfortunately, we did not finish as high as we did in the 1st round but club records were achieved by the 11 and under boys free relay team, consisting of Luke Gregory, Dominic Harrison, Kyle Walton and Jamie Edwards (1.07.65), Kyle Walton in the 11 and under 25m butterfly (17.62) and Hannah Colledge in the girls 15 and under 50m freestyle (31.27). Rebekah Wheatley, Kyle Walton and Hannah Colledge achieved first places and 12 swimmers broke their previous PB’s. The final round of the Notts and District league took place in December at Bingham, where both the boys 11 and under free relay team, David Staiano, Luke Gregory, Dominic Harrison and Kyle Walton, again broke the club record (1.06.99). Hannah Colledge produced yet another excellent swim to smash her own club record in the girls 15 and under 50m freestyle (30.68). First places were achieved by the boys 9 year old medley relay team (Dominic Harrison, Jamie Peacock, Freddie Day, and Daniel Lawrence), the boys 11 and under free relay team (as above), Claire Redshaw, Kyle Walton (2), Rebekah Wheatley, Hannah Colledge, James Shelton, the girls Open free relay team (Laura Brown, Katie Gibbins, Hannah Colledge and Sarah Allcock), and the ten swimmers who took part in the Cannon. Nine swimmers achieved PB’s.
	AUTUMN MINOR GALA LEAGE ROUND 3
	The final round of the Autumn Minor Gala League took place on 15th November, 2003, producing some excellent results for the Arnold swimmers. Club records were produced by Sasha Matthews breaking her own previous club records in both the 12 and under Individual Medley (1.12.01) and the 12 and under butterfly, (33.11), and the boys 10 year old medley relay team (Luke Gregory, David Staiano, Kyle Walton and William Martin). First places went to Sasha Matthews (3), the boys 9 year old free relay (Dominic Harrison, Jamie Peacock, Daniel Lawrence and Kyle Walton), the boys 10 year old medley relay team (Luke Gregory, David Staiano, Kyle Walton and William Martin), Joel Fothergill, David Staiano (2), the girls 9 year old medley relay team (Jade Edwards, R Walker, Philippa Broadhurst and Sophie Baldwin), Emma Markowski and Rebekah Wheatley. There were also 11 PB’s. Well done to all swimmers who took part in these competitions!
	IMPORTANT INFORMATION
	Arnold Swimming Club would like to remind all parents to remain on the premises if their child is under 8 years of age. This is a legal requirement. If any child under 8 is left on the premises unattended they will not be allowed to participate.
	ASA FEES 2004
	Part of the annual subscription each year goes to the Amateur Swimming Association, previously £3 per swimmer, unless the swimmer takes part in Open competitions when there is usually an extra fee. This year they have decided to charge each Club £16 per gala swimmer. You can understand that bearing in mind the number of gala swimmers in the Club this would amount to a tidy sum. Because of this the Committee of Arnold Swimming Club has decided that it will pay half of the £16 but unfortunately must ask parents to pay the other £8. We regret having to make this decision but feel we have been left with no choice by the ASA. You will be contacted shortly about this fee.
	Team Manager
	As from the beginning of this year, Cheryl Allcock will no longer be Team Manager. Although Cheryl will still be responsible for issuing gala slips and will still help poolside, the Club coach, Fred Ellis, will be taking on some of the team manager’s duties. Therefore, if you cannot swim at a gala you will need to inform Fred. If you know in advance that you will be unavailable for any gala, please inform Fred as soon as possible. A list of gala dates is available on the web site www.arnoldswimmingclub.org.uk.
	HEALTH & SAFETY
	In the interests of health and safety would all parents remind swimmers to use the toilet before entering the pool and to eat no less than two hours before swimming.
