Editors Bit
  Dear Members,
We are now well and truly into the swimming year with many competitions having taken place and the County Championships well under way. The results of the County Championships will be announced in the next newsletter when we have the final results.
So far this year the results have been a little mixed but we have faced stiff competition and still managed to produce club records and personal bests We hope as many of you as possible have read the last edition of Newsplash and enjoyed it Your comments are always welcome and if any of you feel you could contribute, please let me know.
To keep up to date with information about the Club, please visit the revamped website at www.arnold.swimmingclub.org.uk or take a look at the notice board, situated in the spectators area on poolside.
Have a very Happy Easter and please remember that there will be no swimming on Friday 8th April or Monday 11th April.

Spring Competition Saturday 6th March at Retford
Although the venue for this gala was changed at short notice, and some swimmers could not make it, a very satisfactory result was achieved. With swimmers being draughted in at very short notice and alterations being made on the night a very creditable 2nd place was gained.
It was remarked by some officials, not associated with Arnold S.C. how well our swimmers were doing and how much effort was being put in. For the Coaching staff this is very gratifying.
Well done to all concerned and keep up the training ready for the final.

Fred Ellis
Head Coach
  Minor Gala League (Spring)

Club records were achieved by Sasha Matthews in the girls 12 and under 50m butterfly (32.50), the 200m freestyle in the same age group (220.79) and the girls 13 and under 50m butterfly (33.79); also the boys 13 and under medley relay team (Paul Traynor, James Shelton, Craig Allcock and Matthew Walker) in a time of 109.41, the boys 10 and under free and medley relay team (Dominic Harrison, Jamie Peacock, David Staiano and Kyle Walton) in times of 105.33 and 120.18 respectively, the girls 12 and under medley and free relay team (Rosaria Cracolici, Rebekah Wheatley, Sasha Matthews, Laura Baldwin) in times of 110.87 and 102.60 respectively, and David Staiano in the boys 12 and under 200m freestyle (253.79). First places went to Sasha Matthews in both the girls 13 and under 200m freestyle and the 50m butterfly and David Staiano in the boys 10 and under 50m breastroke. The swimmers managed to achieve 15 PB’s.
  SPRING COMPETITION
Round 1 of the Spring Competition took place at Bingham Leisure Centre on the 31st January. Again, we seem to have drawn the toughest teams but we did win this competition last year. There were 3 club records, all by Sasha Matthews in the girls open 50m butterfly (31.56) the girls 14 and under butterfly (33.12) and the girls 14 and under individual medley relay (1.13.67).
First places were achieved by Sasha (2) Kyle Walton in the boys 10 and under freestyle (34.16), the boys 9 and under relay ream (Oliver Lenton, Jacob Parker, Samual Munday and Kieran Poland), (1.20.19), Jamie Peacock in the boys 10 and under backstoke (46.51) and Hannah Colledge in the girls 14 and under freestyle (1.08.38). There were 15 PB’s.
Round 2 eventually took place at Retford Leisure Centre, a new location to many of us. The Club apologises for this mix-up and thanks all swimmers, officials and parents alike who took the trouble to attend this gala. We fared much better than in the first round with 2 club records, again by Sasha in both the 14 and under and the open 50m butterfly (31.31) and (31.34), 8 first places by Sasha Matthews (3), David Staiano in both the boys 10 and under 50m freestyle and breastroke, Dominic Harrison in the boys 10 and under backstoke, Kyle Walton in the boys 12 and under 50m butterfly and Hannah Colledge in the girls 14 and under 100m freestyle There were 13 PB’s. Overall we finished in 2nd place.
For a full round up of all results see either our notice board or the Arnold Swimming Club website.

WHO IS LOOKING AFTER YOUR CHILD
Arnold Swimming Club would like to remind parents that Coaches are only responsible for your child whilst in the water. Neither the swimming club or the Leisure Centre can accept responsibility for children whilst elsewhere on the premises.
  ASA FEES 2004
Part of the annual subscription each year goes to the Amateur Swimming Association, previously £3 per swimmer, unless the swimmer takes part in Open competitions when there is usually an extra fee. This year they have decided to charge each Club £16 per gala swimmer. You can understand that bearing in mind the number of gala swimmers in the Club this would amount to a tidy sum.
Because of this the Committee of Arnold Swimming Club has decided that it will pay half of the £16 but unfortunately must ask parents to pay the other £8. We regret having to make this decision but feel we have been left with no choice by the ASA.
You will be contacted shortly about this fee.

  Team Manager
As from the beginning of this year, Cheryl Allcock will no longer be Team Manager. Although Cheryl will still be responsible for issuing gala slips and will still help poolside, the Club coach, Fred Ellis, will be taking on some of the team manager’s duties. Therefore, if you cannot swim at a gala you will need to inform Fred. If you know in advance that you will be unavailable for any gala, please inform Fred as soon as possible. A list of gala dates is available on the web site www.arnoldswimmingclub.org.uk.

  HEALTH & SAFETY
In the interests of health and safety would all parents remind swimmers to use the toilet before entering the pool and to eat no less than two hours before swimming.
