Welcome
Welcome to the new look Arnold Swimming Club Newsletter.
I would like to start my first newsletter for Arnold Swimming Club, on behalf of the committee, by thanking Julie Redshaw for all of her hard work in producing the newsletters for the Club over the last few years. Arnold Swimming Club and I wish you all the best in whatever tasks you choose to do next and wish you every bit of success for the future.

  Pool Closures
For just over a month now Arnold Leisure Centre’s pool has been closed to the public for a full retiling of the Swimming Pool and surrounding areas. With this Arnold Swimming Club have had to find alternative swimming locations at different Pools in the nearby area.
Between the Arnold Swimming Club Committee and the staff at Arnold Leisure Centre we have managed to secure the pool times shown below.
As a Club we are dedicated to improving our swimmers to the best of their abilities and this can only be achieved through training. We can understand how hard it can be to get to the different venues during this winter period, and we are grateful to see so many dedicated swimmers attending as many sessions as they can.
We look forward to seeing you all at the upcoming training sessions, and for those of you who can not attend, when we get back to Arnold in January.
If there are any changes to the pool schedule shown below or our return date to Arnold Leisure Centre we will keep you informed by the website ( www.arnoldswimmingclub.org.uk ) and also at each of the sessions.

With these sessions being at different locations Pool side assistance is spread out and can become thin at some venues. If you would like to help us out on pool side it would be greatly appreciated. If you wish to help please see Rob Clarke or Bill Hopkins at the end of any session or contact a committee member.

  Level 2 Teachers Course

A big Congratulations to everyone who took part in the recent Level 2 teachers course that we held at Arnold Leisure Centre. And a big thank you to all swimmers who were involved in one way or anther for your help and cooperation during the course.
Congratulations to Tony Parker, Ian Tomlin and Laura Brown who all passed the course. We wish you all the best and hope that your skills will be put to good use helping to develop our swimmers to become the best they can be. A further good luck to Sue Smith who is soon to retake one of the four units.

  Level 3 Coaches Course

Bill (Granddad) Hopkins is currently involved in a course to become a qualified ASA Coach. The course is a very intense course and we wish Bill all the best and success to pass.

  Lifeguard Training
Tony Parker has recently undergone a weeks intense course to become a qualified lifeguard. This now means that within Arnold swimming Clubs coaching staff we have a fully qualified lifeguard on poolside in addition to each leisure centre’s own lifeguards. We thank Tony for taking up a lot of his own time to gain this qualification and hope that we will NOT need to put his new skills into use.

  Thank You

Over the last few committee meetings we have had a couple of resignations from the Swimming Club Committee. Sue Packman has resigned as the Swimming Club’s Social Secretary. We would like to wish Sue all the best for the future and hope to see you around the club from time to time. We are currently looking for somebody to fill this position.
Also, Tracy Martin resigned as the Swimming Club’s Secretary. Tracy has taken this decision as her daughter, Rachel Martin, has progressed to the B2 Squad of the Nova Centurions Swimming team. With this progression Tracy believes that she will not be around Arnold Swimming Club as often, so has decided to pass on the job. We wish both Tracy and Rachel all the best for the future and we will be seeing them around on pool side. Tracy’s position has been taken by Michelle Parker who has swapped her position within the committee from Badges Secretary. We wish Michelle all the best in her new role. Taking over as our badges secretary is Peter Watkins.
As a result of the latest committee meeting it was voted that Ian Tomlin will also become the Swimming Club’s Vice-Chairman alongside his role as the Annual gala co-ordinator. We wish all the best to Ian in his new role and will assist him with the new challenges that the role will have.
As mentioned above we have a vacancy on the committee, for Social Secretary. If you would like to apply to take up this role please see one of the committee members at our training sessions over the next few months or e-mail us via the website.

  Results
The new gala season is well and truly upon us now after a short summer break.
We have currently taken place in the first round of the Notts and District League where Arnold came 3rd with 13 1st places, 11 PB’s and 5 Club Records. With the second Round approaching very soon we would like to wish all of our swimmers the very best and hopefully claim a respectable place in one of the finals in December.
The Autumn Minor Gala League has now drawn to a close with us claiming a 2nd place in the first round with 8 1st places, 6 PB’s and 2 Club Records.
The second round claimed Arnold a 1st place with 19 1st places, 3 PB’s and 1 Club Record. With the success of the first two rounds Arnold Swimming Club was place in the A final where we claimed a 4th place with 6 1st places, 9 PB’s and 3 Club Records. That’s a grand total of 33 1st places, 18 PB’s and 6 Club Records!! A Huge congratulations to all swimmers who took part and to all coaches, helpers and parents for their continuing efforts and support.
A big congratulations to Rachel Martin who has been selected for the first time by Notts ASA to swim for Nottingham on the 12th November! All the best to Rachel and hope she does well in all her events.
