Welcome to the latest edition of the ASC newsletter. First of all I would like to pass on the club’s and my thanks to David Fortescue for all the hard work he has, and continues to do, for the club including the work he did while Newsletter Editor. Thanks for the continued support and help you have given me in my new role. You will be a hard act to follow David, but hopefully I will continue the high standards you have set!

  Since the last Newsletter lots of new and exciting thing have happened at the club;
  • We have had fantastic success in the National Swimming League, finishing in runners-up spot behind the City of Hereford in a hard fought swim off final at the Stetchford LC in Birmingham. This result gave us promotion to Division 2 of the West Midlands League and must be one of the greatest results the club has ever enjoyed!
  • We have competed in 2 rounds of the Spring Minor Gala league and the ‘A’ Team have reached the ‘A’ Final
  • We have re-entered the Sports Centre League, for the first time in a number of years, and have already seen some great swims from our team
  • We have competed in two rounds of the Spring Competition with many swimmers gaining PB’s.
  • And finally, we currently have 28 swimmers competing in the Nottinghamshire County Championships. Some of these swimmers competing in this event for the first time!

All of this is great news for the swimmers and the club, however we want more!!

Arnold SC is a community and competitive swimming club and as such we want ALL our swimmers to learn to swim and then compete in gala’s and other competitions. The best time ALL of our swimmers have to do this is at our own Club Championships held on the evenings of Saturday 3rd October and Saturday 7th and 28th November. With this in mind Rob Clarke, Head Coach, along with the rest of the clubs Teachers and Coaches plan to have EVERY swimmer at the club taking part in this years Club Championships. The Club will guide every swimmer in terms of what events each swimmer should be entering and this includes ALL the swimmers in the Teaching Pool for which the Splash and Dash event is perfect. This change of approach will hopefully help support those swimmers, parents and guardians who have not had any experience of or do not think that the Club Championships is for them! Remember the reason why we learn to swim at the club and then continue to train so hard is so that we can see results of all the hard work in a competitive event.

  Club Kit

You will have probably noticed recently, some of our swimmers wearing NEW Club Polo shirts? These were presented by the club to ALL of our swimmers taking part in this years County Championships. The club has had a lot of positive feedback on these Polo shirts and as such have now put together a range of new club kit which includes:

  • Polo Shirts
  • Hoddies
  • Poolside Shorts
  • Woolly Hats
All of which are on sale NOW through the club, please take a look at the information and print off an order form from the website.
We will also be changing our swim caps very shortly, the first batch of these will be with the club by mid to end of March and while this change has been made for quality reasons, we have also taken the opportunity to reverse the club colours with the new caps now being yellow with blue writing. There are a number of clubs in the East Midlands that swim in blue caps with yellow writing and we want to stand out from the rest!!

  Coaches Corner

Rob Clarke has recently started to re-allocate swimmers to different lanes with some of ours swimmers also moving from the first session to the second session. These are big changes for some of the swimmers and as such they need time to settle and adjust to the new training, Teachers, Coaches and swimming friends. Anyone with any problems from this move please discuss with Rob (off poolside) or Jim Shelton as soon as possible.
Rob would also like to remind swimmers and parents/guardians how important it is to drink while training. As such swimmers need to have a water bottle (with water in it) for every training session they attend. Dehydration leads to poor performance, a loss of concentration and headaches. Please ensure the water bottle you have does not have a removable top as these can be VERY dangerous both on poolside and in the water.

  Open Meet reminder

A general reminder from David F regarding Open Meet results. We would like to remind all swimmers that it is important to let David know when you are taking part or have taken part in an Open Meet, this way David can ensure the swimmers results get posted on the website.

  Sponsorship

As you are all aware we are trying to find sponsorship for the club. This process ongoing and we would like to take the following organisations for their support:

Payne Security Products (Mr Archer)
Buttercross View Dental Practice ( Mrs Martin)

Their support enable the club to purchase the County Championship Polo shirts.
Please have a chat with your employer, you never know they may be interested in sponsoring the club? We can provide a DVD presentation of the club for any prospective sponsor to view and we would be more than happy to discuss what we are hoping to achieve with sponsorship.
