Welcome to the Spring edition of the ASC newsletter.
	Following on from the clubs success at the Gedling Sports Forum Annual Sports Awards the club was honoured to have two of its members short listed for awards at the Nottinghamshire Sports Review of the Year which took place at the East Midlands Conference Centre at the beginning of February. Junior Disabled Sportsperson of the year - Jacob Parker Community Coach of the Year - Graham Davies Unfortunately neither Jacob or Graham won their individual categories, however it was a fantastic evening with representatives from all sports in Nottinghamshire in attendance including members of our local professional Football, Cricket, Rugby and Ice Hockey clubs as well as local BBC television. Arnold SC was the most represented base swimming club at this event which can only be good for the profile of the club.
	Club Championships 2010
			Following on from 2009 Club Championships we will be staging 3 of our galas this year at Hucknall Leisure Centre. We plan to use the electronic timing system at Hucknall. This will give all our swimmers yet more experience of what to expect at the County Championships and Open Meets where electronic timing is always used. As such if any parents would like find out how the system works and to be taught how to use the equipment to aid the club please contact David Fortescue by 31st July. The dates for this years Club Championships are as follows; Gala 1 - 26th September-Hucknall Gala 2 - 2nd October-Arnold Gala 3 - 3rd October-Hucknall Gala 4 - 7th November-Hucknall We will also be looking to do a 400m Free event as part of the Club Championships to again tie in with the County Championships, however this still needs to be planned along with the format of all the events. Please note more information will be issued over the next few months.
	Nottingham Nova Squad Selection
	Following trails for the Nova Development Squad we are proud to announce that all 4 of the Arnold SC trialists were invited onto the Squad. Natalie Bacon Hannah Drewitt Alex Driver Grace Perry Congratulations to you all from everyone at the club.
	Club Kit
	The new club kit is available now to ALL of our swimmers and includes the following items: Polo Shirts Hoddies Poolside Shorts Woolly Hats New Arnold SC Swim Caps New Arnold SC Kit Bags These are on sale through the club, please take a look at the information on the website, or at the desk. We have a number of items kept at the desk for swimmers to try on to help in the choice of size. Order forms can be printed off the website or collected from the club desk.
	Coaches Corner
	This year the club has 37 swimmers taking part at the Nottinghamshire ASA County Championships which is an increase of 10 swimmers from last year. This shows a real improvement in the swimmers at the club. It is very pleasing to see some of our youngest swimmers qualifying to take part which underlines what we are trying to achieve through the training sessions. Well done to all those who are competing this year, lets all now work together towards increasing again the number of swimmers who take part next year. Again can I also just remind everyone that we ARE a competitive club and as such, when selected, we do expect you to be available to represent Arnold SC at Galas. If you do not take part in these competitions, when selected, it can cause problems to the rest of the team and does not give you the chance to see how well your training is going in a competitive environment. We do not expect you to swim when you are ill, but please make every effort to attend the swimming event you are chosen for, including the gala’s that are held at Retford, Worksop and Newark.
	Loughborough University 50m Pool Training
	We now have 10 sessions over the course of 2010 booked at Loughborough University with the aim to have 1 session per month with breaks only in the summer. These session will remain by invitation only and as such please try to attend if selected. 50m training is very different to 25m training and the opportunity to have this kind of training at any swimming club is very limited.
	Open Meet reminder
	Again a general reminder from David Fortescue regarding Open Meet results. We would like to remind all swimmers that it is important to let David know when you are taking part or have taken part in an Open Meet, this way David can ensure the swimmers results get posted on the website.
	Issues on the ASC website
			Some of you may have noticed that we have had a few issues with the website from around mid December 2009. Unfortunately our website was attacked by hackers who added malicious content to some of our web pages. Following many hours of work by David Fortescue and the Host company a fix was put in place at the end of January. The website has responded well and we now believe that all the issues have been resolved, we apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you do spot anything that you believe should not be on the site then please inform David Fortescue as soon as you can.
	Sponsorship
	Although we continue to look for sponsorship for the club it is great to be able to thank Total Sports Plus at Hucknall for sponsoring the clubs polo shirts for this years County Championships. You can find their contact details on the Home page of the ASC website. We can still provide a DVD presentation of the club for any prospective sponsor to view and we would be more than happy to discuss what we are hoping to achieve with sponsorship. Anyone interested in helping with either finding a main sponsors or with sponsorship at the Club Championships please talk to Jim Shelton or David Fortescue at the club desk.
	Teachers Level 1
	We have 4 of the ASC team who have signed up for a Level 1 Teachers course; Carol Bramley, David Osborne, Dean Perry and Adriano Staiano all started the Course in Mid February. Good luck and we look forward to having yet more qualified helpers on poolside.
	Judge Level 1
	Some of our parents and older swimmers have been working towards gaining qualifications as Level 1 Judges. This is very important to the club as without these qualified helpers we would not be able to run our Club Championships or be able to help support the gala’s the club competes in. We are pleased to announce that both James Shelton and David Fortescue are the first of the team to be fully signed off, with a number of others only 1 or 2 signatures away from completion of the course. Well done and thank you.
	Welcome to the Club
	The Club would like to welcome the following swimmers who have joined the club since the last newsletter. 	Arnold Swimming Club Caps
	It has been fantastic to see all the swimmers wearing the new yellow and blue club caps while representing the club whether this has been at the inter-club galas or at the County Championships. Lets now keep this going, spares can be bought from the club desk on any club night, everyone wearing the same club cap not only looks good, but also underlines a great team spirit and togetherness.
