  Club Championships 2010

The organisation for this years Club Championships is beginning to take shape and we can now confirm the dates, start times and venues.

Gala 1 - 26th September - Hucknall (2.00pm Warm Up)
Gala 2 - 2nd October - Arnold (6.00pm Warm Up)
Gala 3 - 3rd October - Hucknall (2.00pm Warm Up)
Gala 4 - 31st October - Arnold (5pm Warm Up 400m Free Only)
Gala 5 - 7th November - Hucknall (2.00pm Warm Up)

We will use the electronic timing system at Hucknall, barring any circumstances out of the clubs control, and we are also planning to use the Fina/BagCat points system. The more events you enter the more points you score, and everyone who is eligible will receive a Fina/BagCat Certificate which will show all the events you have competed in at the Club Championships and also your Fina/BagCat points. This will give all our swimmers yet more experience of what to expect at the County Championships and Open Meets where electronic timing and the Fina/BagCat points system are always used.

To get the best Fina/BagCat score you can you need to enter as many events as you can.

The club will again aim to advise swimmers on which events they should be entering. If any swimmers would like additional support from any of the Coaches please do not hesitate to ask.

If any parents would like find out how the electronic timing system works and be taught how to use any of the equipment to aid the club please contact David Fortescue by 31st July.

Please note additional information will be issued over the next few months.

David & James 'At the Olympic Games 2012'

David Fortescue and James Shelton have recently been selected by the ASA to join the ‘ASA Youth Forum’. This comes as recognition for their participation in the sport of swimming and their volunteering involvement both at Arnold SC and other swimming clubs in Nottinghamshire as well as clubs in Derby, Leicester and Sheffield.

David and James will join 7 other ‘Selected Volunteers’ from around the Country to spearhead this new Forum which will look at the different ways young volunteers are involved in sport and put together initiatives to get more involved with the aim to have many helping out at the Olympic and Paralympic games in 2012.

Congratulations from the club and good luck with ‘your’ Olympic dream!

If you would like to help out and volunteer in any way then please speak to one of the committee who would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have or to get you involved and helping out in some way.

      Coaches Corner

The Club has just had a fantastic 3 months with the GB selections, National and Midland qualifiers and 36 of the clubs swimmers taking part in the County Championships as well as some great results at inter-club galas.

All of this success does not come without hard work and dedication. We need to train well, think about what we are doing when we train, ensure we eat and drink correctly and think about how we treat fellow members of the club. If we are looking after ourselves and each other we will continue to grow as swimmers and as a club. Well done to all, lets keep up the good work!!!

Again can I also just remind everyone that we ARE a competitive club and as such, when selected, we do expect you to be available to represent Arnold SC at Galas. If you do not take part in these competitions, when selected, it can cause problems to the rest of the team and does not give you the chance to see how well your training is going in a competitive environment.

We do not expect you to swim when you are ill, but please make every effort to attend the swimming event you are chosen for, including the gala’s that are held at Retford, Worksop and Newark.

      Loughborough University 50m Pool Training

We have now secured sessions at Loughborough University throughout 2010 and 2011. Sessions have been booked once a month with breaks only in the summer. These session will remain by invitation only and as such please try to attend if selected. 50m training is very different to 25m training and the opportunity to have this kind of training at any swimming club is very limited.

      Open Meet reminder

Again a general reminder from David Fortescue regarding Open Meet results. We would like to remind all swimmers that it is important to let David know when you are taking part or have taken part in an Open Meet, this way David can ensure the swimmers results get posted on the website.

      Issues on the ASC website

I'm sure you will agree that our website continues to be one of the best around and to ensure it stays that way David Fortescue will be changing some of the way that the website works for members through June and July. This work should not affect anyone's usage but if you do spot a problem please let David know as soon as possible.

      Sponsorship

Although we continue to look for sponsorship for the club it is great to be able to thank Total Sports Plus at Hucknall for sponsoring the clubs polo shirts for this years County Championships. You can find their contact details on the Home page of the ASC website.
We can still provide a CD presentation of the club for any prospective sponsor to view and we would be more than happy to discuss what we are hoping to achieve with sponsorship.

Anyone interested in helping with either finding a main sponsors or with sponsorship at the Club Championships please talk to Jim Shelton or David Fortescue at the club desk.

      Teachers Level 1

Congratulations to Carol Bramley, David Osborne, Dean Perry and Adriano Staiano who have all recently "PASSED" there Level 1 Teachers course.

      Judge Level 1 and 2

Some of our parents and older swimmers have been working towards gaining qualifications as Level 1 Judges. This is very important to the club as without these qualified helpers we would not be able to run our Club Championships or be able to help support the gala’s the club competes in. We are pleased to announce that since the last newsletter we have had some more of out trainees fully signed off as level 1 judges. These are David Osborne and Jim Driver. David Fortescue are the first of the team to be fully signed off on the second level of the ASA judges course, with a number of others only 1 or 2 signatures away from completion of both courses. Well done and thank you.

      Welcome to the Club

The Club would like to welcome the following swimmers who have joined the club since the last newsletter. We wish you every success in your swimming career and hope you enjoy being part of one of the best swimming clubs in the County!

Maisie Chung, Leah Homan-Smikle, Libby Middleton, Mark Higgins, Ellie Blakey, Jai Towsey, Jacob Cooper, Timothy McLaren, Elizabeth Atherton, Grace Holmes, Amy Meek and Ella Meek.

      Arnold Swimming Club Caps

It has been fantastic to see all the swimmers wearing the new yellow and blue club caps while representing the club whether this has been at the inter-club galas or at the County Championships.

Lets now keep this going, spares can be bought from the club desk on any club night, everyone wearing the same club cap not only looks good, but also underlines a great team spirit and togetherness.
