Welcome to the Winter edition of the ASC newsletter.
	For the second year running the club was well represented at the Gedling Sports Forum Annual Sports Awards which were held in November 2009. The club had the following members shortlisted; Junior Sportsman of the year 11-16 - Rohan Watkins Junior Sportswoman of the year 11-16 - Rachel Martin Junior Sportswoman of the year 16-21 - Sasha Matthews Achievement in Disability Sport - Jacob Parker Volunteer of the Year - David Fortescue Club Coach of the Year - Graham Davies We are please to announce that Sasha Matthews, Jacob Parker and Graham Davies all won their individual categories with Sasha Matthews also winning Sports Person of the Year. 	Club Championships
	Well, as you are all aware, this weekend saw the final night of the Club Championships. We wanted to make this years event the best attended we have had in the last few years. For the 1st session swimmers the coaches provided additional support to identify which events they thought each swimmer would be capable of competing in and held time trials on training nights through June and July. Seeing lots of our younger swimmers competing in the 200 metre events was fantastic, and we hope to be able to encourage even more swimmers to attend next years Championships. We also improved the opportunities for our Small Pool and Shallow End Lane 6 swimmers by having 3 separate events targeting this group of swimmers which hopefully gave them the chance to really feel part of the Club Championships. For all the 25 metre events we decided this year to start these events from the deep end which meant that all the swimmers had the chance to use the starting blocks, something they are encouraged to do on most club training nights. The Club would like to thank all who helped in the organisation and running of this years Championships and to those parents who came and supported each and every swimmer. If you would like to get more involved in the club please do not hesitate to talk to Jim Shelton who is usually found at the club desk.
	Coaches Challenge
	For those of you who weren’t at the final Club Championships you missed a fantastic Coaches Challenge. This event took almost as much time to organise as the rest of the Championships put together with Jim S, David F, Ian T, Colin W, Bill H, Tony P and Rob Clarke all contributing to make sure it was a “special event” with 72 swimmers fighting it out in 12 different teams to reach the final. Unfortunately, even though you all put up a good effort it was the Coaches who romped home in world record time to take the title and be crowned Champions for another year. Better luck next year! The Champion Coaches team was as follows: Michelle Parker (Captain), Dean Perry, Jim Shelton, Graham Davies, Ian Tomlin, Tony Parker and Nic Rotton.
	Coaches Corner
	I am very pleased by the overall response we have had to this years Club Championships, especially from our younger swimmers with many taking their Lane Coaches advice and entered some 200 metre events. We now need to continue to work together and aim to have more of our older swimmers taking part in these distance events next year. Arnold Swimming Club is a Competitive club and as such I would just like to make everyone aware that over the last few weeks we have faced some real problems when it has come to the availability of swimmers for our League galas. The club gained promotion to Division 2 of the West Midlands National Swimming League last season and we knew what a challenge it would be for our swimmers to stay in this Division this year. However we have had to face swimming some of the rounds without a full team which you cannot afford to do at this level. This has also been the case in the Notts and District Team and the Minor Gala Team. As a Club we have entered these competitions so that you all have the opportunity to compete. If you do not take part in these competitions, when selected, it can cause problems to the rest of the team and does not give you the chance to see how well your training is going in a competitive environment. We do not expect you to swim when you are ill, but please make every effort to attend the swimming event you are chosen for. The fixtures list is published on the website and the noticeboard at the club.
	Club Kit
	The new club kit is available now to ALL of our swimmers and includes the following items: Polo Shirts Hoddies Poolside Shorts Woolly Hats New Arnold SC Swim Caps New Arnold SC Kit Bags These are on sale through the club, please take a look at the information on the website, or at the desk. We have a number of items kept at the desk for swimmers to try on to help in the choice of size. Order forms can be printed off the website or collected from the club desk.
	Open Meet reminder
	Again a general reminder from David Fortescue regarding Open Meet results. We would like to remind all swimmers that it is important to let David know when you are taking part or have taken part in an Open Meet, this way David can ensure the swimmers results get posted on the website.
	Loughborough University 50 metre Pool Training
			Following the last newsletter we have attended a further 4 sessions at Loughborough University and these sessions continue to be fantastically supported, thank you. As such we plan to book further sessions in the New Year, dates to follow.

	As you are all aware we are trying to find sponsorship for the club. Please have a chat with your employer, you never know they may be interested in sponsoring the club? We can provide a DVD presentation of the club for any prospective sponsor to view and we would be more than happy to discuss what we are hoping to achieve with sponsorship. Anyone interested in helping with either finding main sponsors or with sponsorship at the Club Championships please talk to Jim Shelton or David Fortescue at the club desk.

	Individual Swimmers Successes
			Midlands Short Course - We had a number of swimmers who competed in this years event held at Braunstone Leisure Centre. Sasha Matthews, Kyle Walton, Abby Walton, Rachel Martin, Geena Johnson, Mitchell Jordan, David Staiano. DSE British Short Course - Jacob Parker took part in this event and had a fantastic weekend taking a Silver and 3 Bronze medals, please see full report on the website. UK School Games - Jacob Parker took part in this event and again had a great weekend taking Gold in the 100m Fly, please see full report on the website Schools Swimming - Charlotte Kelly and Abby Walton made up 50% of the Redhill swimming team that came first in both the Medley and Freestyle events. The School competed against other schools from Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire. Well done to all the above swimmers.
